About the school

Learn to sail with the Irish National Sailing and Powerboat School from our base at the Marine Activity Centre in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin. We offer RYA courses like Competent Crew and Day Skipper, providing a great way to get out on the water and develop your skills. Dublin Bay offers a fantastic and accessible sailing area right on the city's doorstep.

The location

Dun Laoghaire provides an excellent and accessible location for learning to sail, with its large, well-equipped marina and immediate access to the expansive Dublin Bay. The bay itself offers a good range of conditions and open water, suitable for teaching everything from basic boat handling to more advanced sailing techniques.

How to get there

If you are flying into Ireland, Dublin Airport (DUB) is the main international gateway. From the airport, Dun Laoghaire is approximately a 30-45 minute journey by taxi or a ride hailing service. There are also bus services that connect the airport to areas near Dun Laoghaire, or you could take a bus to the city centre and then the DART train south to Dun Laoghaire.

Best time to go

The primary sailing season in Dublin Bay generally runs from April to October. During these months, you'll typically experience milder weather and longer daylight hours, which are more conducive to learning and enjoying your time on the water. While Irish weather can be unpredictable, this period offers the best chance for favorable sailing conditions.
