Nelson Marina provides an excellent base for exploring the beautiful Tasman Bay and the nearby Abel Tasman National Park, offering a superb learning environment for RYA courses. The area is known for its sunny climate, golden beaches, and clear waters, with conditions generally well suited for both novice and experienced sailors to develop their skills.
The location
To reach Nelson, you will fly into Nelson Airport (NSN), which has good connections from New Zealand's main international airports like Auckland (AKL), Wellington (WLG), and Christchurch (CHC). From Nelson Airport, the marina is a short taxi or ride hailing service journey of about 10-15 minutes. Car rentals are also available.
How to get there
The best time for sailing in the Nelson region and Tasman Bay is during the New Zealand summer months, from December to March, and the shoulder seasons of November and April. This period typically brings the most sunshine, warmest temperatures, and reliable sea breezes, creating ideal conditions for your sailing course and enjoying the spectacular coastal scenery.
