Shirley Valentine Sailing

Hope Island, Australia

About

Hope Island offers access to the sheltered waters of the Gold Coast Broadwater, which is an excellent and safe environment for learning the fundamentals of sailing. The calm waters and proximity to coastal passages also allow for progression to more open sea conditions as skills develop.

The Area

The closest major airport to Hope Island is Gold Coast Airport (OOL), located approximately a 40-50 minute drive to the south. Brisbane Airport (BNE) is another option, about an hour's drive to the north. From either airport, car rentals, taxis, ride hailing services, or pre-booked transfers are practical ways to reach Hope Island.

Getting There

The Gold Coast region offers pleasant sailing conditions year round, however, the months from April to November are often preferred. During this time, you'll generally experience milder temperatures, less humidity, and more consistent southerly breezes, which are favorable for sailing instruction in the Broadwater and offshore.
