The Area
Marina di Chiavari offers a secure and well-equipped base for starting your sailing education, with easy access to the Ligurian Sea and the stunning coastline that includes Portofino and the Cinque Terre. The conditions are generally favorable for instruction, allowing students to gain practical experience in a famously beautiful part of Italy.
Getting There
To reach Marina di Chiavari, the closest major international airport is Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport (GOA), which is about a 45 minute to an hour's drive away. Regular train services also connect Genoa with Chiavari, making it a convenient option. Pisa International Airport (PSA) is another possibility, though it's further, approximately a 1.5 to 2 hour drive.
Best Time to Go
The prime sailing season in the Chiavari area and along the Ligurian coast typically runs from May to October. During this period, you can expect warm, sunny weather, pleasant sea conditions, and generally reliable winds, which are excellent for both learning to sail and exploring this picturesque coastline.
