About

The Navy Patuxent Sailing Club is made up of over two hundred members, including Active Duty, Reserve, Civil Service, and Contractor personnel. They come from diverse backgrounds but share a common passion for sailing. Located near the Patuxent River and Chesapeake Bay, members enjoy some of the best sailing on the East Coast just minutes from their base. The club aims to give eligible personnel and their families the opportunity to experience and enjoy sailing, improve their skills in handling both small and large boats, and promote sailing as a sport within the Navy. Members also participate in small boat racing, develop seamanship skills, and engage in water safety activities, all while fostering camaraderie and supporting morale and recreation efforts.

The Area

Located along the scenic shores of the Patuxent River in Maryland, our sailing school offers a practical setting for learning the fundamentals of sailing. The calm waters and accessible marinas provide an ideal environment for beginners to gain confidence in small boat handling, navigation, and seamanship skills. Whether you're interested in casual sailing or pursuing competitive opportunities, our location offers a supportive backdrop to develop your abilities and enjoy the maritime landscape.

Getting There

From major airports such as Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) or Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), you can rent a car or use ride-hailing services like Uber or Lyft to reach the Navy Patuxent Sailing Club. The drive typically takes about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on traffic. Once in Patuxent River, follow local signs to PO Box 2202. If you prefer public transportation, you may take a combination of Amtrak or MARC train services to nearby stations and then arrange for a taxi or ride-share to the sailing club, but driving is the most convenient option for direct access.
