The school’s boats are maintained to the highest maritime standards, and classes often take place in a liveaboard environment, giving students a taste of life at sea. The curriculum is led by U.S. Coast Guard Licensed Master Captains who emphasize safety, education, and enjoyment, helping students develop essential seamanship skills and confidence on the water.

Getting There
Fly into Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), the nearest major airport. From there, you can rent a car or use ride-hailing services like Uber or Lyft to reach 233 Nanticoke Rd in Essex, MD, about a 15-20 minute drive. If you prefer public transportation, take the Light RailLink from BWI to Baltimore’s Camden Station, then transfer to a taxi or ride-hailing service for the short trip to Markleys Marina. Once at the marina, follow signs to the sailing school located on the tranquil shores of Chesapeake Bay.
Best Time to Go
The best time to sail on Chesapeake Bay is from late spring through early fall, with warm temperatures and steady breezes making for enjoyable conditions on the water. Early mornings and late afternoons often offer the most comfortable sailing experience, especially as the summer heats up.
