To reach Southern Sailing School in Key West, start by booking a flight to Miami International Airport (MIA) or Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), both major gateways to South Florida. From there, you can rent a car or arrange a private transfer for the approximately 160-mile drive south to Key West, which takes around 3 to 4 hours. If you prefer not to drive, consider booking a scenic shuttle service or a one-way rental car to enjoy the flexibility of exploring along the way. Upon arriving in Key West, head to Sunset Marina located at 5555 College Road. Our school is situated within the marina complex, so look for signage directing you to the main docks, and feel free to call ahead if you need detailed directions or assistance upon arrival.
The best time to sail in Key West is from late fall through early spring, when the weather is warm and the seas are generally calm. During these months, you can enjoy smooth waters and ideal conditions for learning and exploring.
