To reach the San Luis Yacht Club in Avila Beach, start by flying into San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport (SBP), the closest major airport. From the airport, you can rent a car or use a ride-hailing service such as Uber or Lyft to drive approximately 15 miles west to Avila Beach. The drive typically takes around 20 to 30 minutes. If you're arriving from a major city like Los Angeles or San Francisco, you may also choose to fly into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) or San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and rent a car for the approximately 200-mile drive north to Avila Beach. Once in Avila Beach, follow local signs to Front Street, where the sailing school is located at 443 Front St., near the waterfront.
The best time to sail in Avila Beach is from late spring through early fall, typically from May through September, when the weather is warm and the winds are steady. Mornings tend to be calmer, making for a more relaxed experience on the water.
