From our base, students can easily venture out to nearby destinations like Catalina Island, making it an excellent starting point for both classroom instruction and hands-on sailing experience. To reach Aventura Sailing Academy, fly into John Wayne Airport (SNA) or Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), both of which are within an hour’s drive. From either airport, you can rent a car or use ride-hailing services like Uber or Lyft for a convenient trip south to Dana Point. Once you arrive in Dana Point, follow local signs to Dana Point Harbor. The academy is located at 24707 Dana Dr., within the harbor area, where ample parking is available nearby. If you're arriving by train, Amtrak services the nearby stations, and from there, a taxi or ride-share can take you directly to the harbor. Whether you choose to drive or arrange transportation, the journey offers scenic views of Southern California’s coastline and leads directly to our premier sailing location.
The best time to sail in Dana Point is during the late spring through early fall, from May through October, when the weather is consistently warm and the winds are steady. Summer months offer the most reliable conditions for a smooth and enjoyable sailing experience along Southern California’s coast.

Since opening in 1962, it has established six locations along the coast, offering a variety of boats ranging from 22 to 50 feet, including monohulls, catamarans, and powerboats. The school provides a comprehensive selection of ASA courses, with the most popular being the Complete Sailing Course that covers ASA 101 and 103 certifications and offers lessons every weekend throughout the year. Their newest offering, the Ultimate Sailing Course, is a five-day intensive live-aboard experience that includes ASA 101, 103, and 104 certifications, along with a voyage to Catalina Island or the Channel Islands. For seasoned sailors, the school also features advanced courses and a beautiful fleet available for chartering.
