About the school
Join us at Sail Cork, based in the historic area of Cobh, where we offer RYA courses including Competent Crew and Day Skipper. Our location within Cork Harbour, one of the world's largest natural harbours, provides a superb and varied environment for learning to sail. We are passionate about sharing our love of the water and helping you build your skills.
The location
East Ferry Marina in Cobh is situated within the vast and sheltered expanse of Cork Harbour, offering an ideal and safe environment for beginners to learn fundamental sailing skills. The harbour's many islands, rivers, and varied coastline also provide excellent opportunities for more advanced training and exploration.
How to get there
Cork Airport (ORK) is the most convenient international airport for reaching Cobh, located approximately a 30-minute drive from East Ferry Marina. Taxis and rental cars are available at the airport. If arriving at Dublin Airport (DUB), the journey to Cobh is longer, typically 2.5 to 3 hours by car or by taking a train or bus to Cork city and then a local connection to Cobh.
Best time to go
The best months for sailing in Cork Harbour are generally from May through September. This period usually offers milder temperatures, more daylight, and a greater chance of favorable winds for instruction and enjoying the extensive waterways. While sailing is possible at other times, these months provide the most consistently pleasant conditions.
