Located at The KYSC Boat House in Waleska, Georgia, this sailing school has been a pioneer in the region since 1983 as the first ASA facility in Georgia. Set on a large private mountain lake in the North Georgia foothills, the location offers a tranquil environment with low boat traffic, making it ideal for beginners. As students progress, they can venture onto larger waters and explore a variety of vessels, expanding their sailing skills from local lakes to coastal and open ocean adventures, covering courses from ASA 101 through ASA 114.

The Area
Located on the shores of Lake Arrowhead in Waleska, Georgia, our school offers a tranquil setting ideal for learning to sail. The large, private mountain lake provides a safe environment with minimal boat traffic, making it perfect for beginners to build confidence and develop foundational skills. As students progress, we introduce them to larger waters and more advanced vessels, preparing them for sailing beyond the local lake. Our location provides a relaxed atmosphere while maintaining a professional focus on safety and skill development.
Getting There
To reach KYSC at the Boat House in Waleska, Georgia, start by flying into Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, a major hub with numerous domestic and international flights. From the airport, you can rent a car or arrange for a ride-hailing service like Uber or Lyft. The drive to Waleska takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes via I-75 North, then take Exit 20 onto GA-140 West. Follow GA-140 for about 12 miles until you reach Lake Arrowhead Drive; turn onto Lake Arrowhead Drive and continue to the KYSC Boat House located at 2015 Lake Arrowhead Drive. If renting a vehicle, this route offers the most direct and convenient access to the school’s location.
Best Time to Go
The best time to sail here is during late spring through early fall, with warm days and steady breezes making for enjoyable conditions on the mountain lake. Early mornings and late afternoons tend to be the most peaceful, especially on weekdays.
