About the school
Here at 2 Oceans Maritime Academy, we love introducing people to the joys of sailing from our base in the Hout Bay Yacht Club Marina. As an RYA-accredited school in Cape Town, we offer courses like Competent Crew and Day Skipper, perfect whether you're taking your first steps onto a boat or aiming to enhance your maritime abilities. We believe our combination of professional instruction and the beautiful surroundings of Hout Bay provides a wonderful learning atmosphere.
The location
Hout Bay provides a fantastic setting for learning to sail, with its naturally sheltered harbor offering calm waters ideal for building foundational skills. The stunning views of the mountains and access to the wider Cape Town coastline give new sailors an inspiring environment to practice and explore under expert guidance.
How to get there
If you're joining us from overseas, you'll most likely arrive at Cape Town International Airport (CPT). From the airport, Hout Bay Yacht Club Marina is about a 33 km journey. You'll find that renting a car is a straightforward option, or you can use a ride-hailing service which typically takes around 30 to 40 minutes to reach us here in Hout Bay.
Best time to go
We find the most enjoyable time for sailing in Hout Bay is during Cape Town's summer, which runs from November through March. This period consistently brings steady southeasterly winds and clear skies, creating excellent and reliable conditions for learning to sail and experiencing the beautiful coastline.
