About the school

At Julio Verne Náutica, the only RYA centre on Spain's Atlantic Coast, we offer expert instruction from our base in Baiona, within the Monte Real Club de Yates. Our experienced instructors are passionate about sharing their knowledge of these waters. We provide a range of RYA courses designed to build your skills and confidence in the unique Rías Baixas region.

The location

The Rías Baixas of Galicia offer a truly exceptional environment for learning to sail, with its numerous sheltered estuaries, islands, and over 800 miles of beautiful coastline. The reliable weather and the natural protection afforded by the rías create stable conditions, perfect for building experience from beginner to advanced levels in a scenic and culturally rich area.

How to get there

To reach Baiona, the most convenient international airport for many is Porto Airport (OPO) in Portugal, which is about a 90 minute drive south of us. Car rentals or pre-booked transfers are good options from Porto. While Vigo (VGO) and Santiago de Compostela (SCQ) airports in Spain are geographically closer, they often have fewer direct international connections.

Best time to go

The sailing season in the Rías Baixas is generally best from May through to October. During this period, the weather is mild and the winds are typically steady and favorable. The summer months offer particularly calm seas which are great for those starting out, while spring and early autumn provide excellent sailing with fewer people on the water.
